LAURA ELANDS
Having obtained a degree in puppet theatre at ESNAM (École Supérieure des Arts de la Marionnette) in Charleville-Mézières and at the Royal Central School of Speech and Drama in London, she began her artistic path through visual and textile art.
Puppetry revealed itself to her as a possibility to blend the theatrical space with her visual multidisciplinary approach, which developed her artistic language and expanded her possibilities of expression.
Her process is intuitive. The chosen subject is explored through textual and visual research, which little by little feed an imaginary world and an artistic language specific to the performance. This is done through sketchbook work and the creation of images expressed through drawing, painting, sculpture as well as photography. These elements are then brought to the stage where they take the form of a scenic language.
She is currently exploring synthetic textile welding and felt making for the creation of puppets, shadow puppetry screens and scenographic pieces.
Of Dutch nationality, she was born in Germany and has lived in France, Canada and the United Kingdom before moving to Brussels where she currently lives.
